Questions to Ask an Astrologer Before Fixing a Marriage

Families come to me at the last stage, when the alliance is nearly settled and only a formal approval is expected. Then someone asks a single sharp question and the whole conversation becomes useful. Good questions are not disrespect; they are how you get a reading you can actually act on.

Here is what I would want you to ask.

What in this match is strong, and what is weak?

Ask for both sides. Any real chart has both. If an astrologer only lists strengths, or only lists problems, you are getting reassurance or fear, not analysis.

I always tell families to write down the weak points in plain language and take them home. A weakness you understand can be managed. A weakness nobody named will surprise you three years later.

Did you look beyond the Guna score?

The 36-point Ashtakoot score is a starting screen, not a verdict. Ask directly whether the astrologer examined:

• The 7th house and its lord in both charts.
• The Navamsa (D9) chart for both partners.
• Mars, Venus, Saturn and Rahu placements affecting married life.
• The running dasha for each partner over the next few years.

If the answer is only "the score is 28, it is good", ask for more.

What is the likely period of stress, and why?

Every marriage passes through demanding phases. I would rather tell a family that the third and fourth year may be financially tight because of a Saturn period, so they plan for it, than let them believe nothing will ever go wrong.

Ask for the reason behind each prediction. A reason you can follow is a sign the reading is grounded in the chart.

Are the remedies practical and affordable?

Genuine remedies are simple: a mantra, a fast, a donation, sometimes a gemstone after careful judgement. Ask what each remedy is for and how long it should be continued.

Be cautious of anything that requires large payments, secrecy, or repeated "corrections". I have never in my practice seen a marriage improved by fear or by expense.

What would make you advise against this match?

This is the most revealing question of all. An honest astrologer can tell you the conditions under which he would say no. If no such condition exists, then no analysis is really taking place.

What should we still decide ourselves?

Ask what astrology cannot answer here. Temperament, family values, shared expectations, financial habits — the chart can indicate tendencies, but your own observation matters. I say this in every consultation: the chart advises, the family decides.
