Chalit Chart vs Lagna Chart: Why Two Astrologers Give Different Answers

"Sir, one astrologer says Mars is in my 7th house and another says it is in the 6th. Who is right?"

I hear this almost every week. Usually both are right. They are simply reading two different charts — the Lagna chart and the Chalit chart.

What is the difference between the Lagna and Chalit chart?

The Lagna chart places planets by sign. If Mars is in Libra and Libra is your 7th sign, Mars is shown in the 7th house.

The Chalit chart places planets by actual house boundaries, calculated from degrees. A planet sitting at the very edge of a sign can, by degree, fall into the previous or next house. So Mars in Libra may functionally operate from the 6th.

Same birth data. Same planet. Different house. That single difference is behind most conflicting predictions.

Which chart should be trusted for marriage predictions?

In my practice I read both, and I give the Chalit chart the final word on house results. Signs tell you the quality of a planet; houses tell you the area of life it acts on. If a planet has drifted by degree, its effects follow the drift.

This matters enormously for marriage. A Mars that appears manglik in the Lagna chart but sits in the 6th by Chalit is a very different reading — and I have seen families cancel good matches because nobody bothered to check.

Why does the Chalit chart change so much?

Because Vedic house systems divide the sky by degrees of the ascendant, not by neat sign boxes. The closer your ascendant degree is to a sign boundary, the bigger the shift. Charts with an ascendant at 2 degrees or 28 degrees show the largest differences.

This is also why an accurate birth time matters more than most people realise. Ten minutes can move a planet across a house line and change the answer you are given.

So which astrologer should you believe?

Ask a simple question: "Did you check the Chalit chart, and what is my ascendant degree?" An honest astrologer will answer immediately and show you. That one question settles most disputes.

I am also comfortable saying when a chart is borderline. Borderline is a real reading. Pretending certainty where there is none is where astrology loses its dignity.
